WHO WE ARE
Hearts & Hands of Indiana was established in 2009, when Father John McCaslin, then pastor of the Holy Trinity and St. Anthony parishes, shared his vision for rebuilding the neighborhood with a group of parishioners and old friends. This small group met and became incorporated as Hearts & Hands of Indiana Corporation, within just 60 days!
Hearts & Hands has come so far in 9 years, transitioning from an entirely volunteer-driven operation to a staff of four, but our mission remains the same: Helping families and individuals attain affordable, long-term homeownership in the near-west side of Indianapolis by providing education, mentoring, and quality rehabilitated homes.
By focusing on a small service area within the Haughville and Hawthorne neighborhoods, we believe we can create a center of positive change that will then expand to the rest of the community.
WHAT WE DO
As a nonprofit organization driven by our Catholic values, we help families and individuals attain affordable, long-term homeownership in the near-west side of Indianapolis by providing education, mentoring, and quality rehabilitated homes.
By helping families achieve long-term homeownership, we also help them attain increased civic engagement, educational achievement, and improved property value. These enhancements to the families' lives enable them to contribute to the overall stability and improvement of the neighborhood. We focus no only on transforming vacant and abandoned houses in the near-west into safe, welcoming homes that families can be proud to own, but also on preparing these families through education and strategic mentoring.
To date, we've rehabilitated 13 properties, and have provided many families with affordable, stable homes. We currently have 2 more houses on their way to becoming homes.
HOW WE DO IT
We are able to provide a positive change in the near-west side thanks to support from our major supporters. We are so grateful for the help of each of these organizations, because they make our work possible. Take a look at this year's Major Supporters.
We wouldn't be who we are today without the help of each and every one of our donors, volunteers, board members, Houses to Homes supporters, and homeowners. Their stories are best captured in our annual reports and the stories written by members of our community which you can read more about by clicking below:
